Langham Hotels International is launching Langham Place Miora Resort and Spa, the first branded hotel at Kalim Bay, Phuket. Scheduled to open in early 2010, it will offer luxury hotel services with fine views of the Andaman Sea. Andrew Jessop, Vice President of Langham Hotels International (Thailand), says the new boutique hotel is the first of five developments the group plans to establish in Thailand over the next five years.
Langham Place Miora Resort and Spa presents 78 Phuket luxury villas and a penthouse on peaceful Kalim Bay. The hotel was designed by Clint Nagata, a famous Hawaiian-American architect associated with Blink Company, Bangkok. The development is set on a prominent point, providing spectacular views from every villa and combining a sense of privacy and peace in spectacular natural surrounds with contemporary interior design suitable for modern lifestyles.
Each villa features a style to satisfy those who want modern luxury in a romantic atmosphere. Each is designed for relaxing and entertaining, with a private mini-bar, a floating dining table, a day bed, and a barbeque grill.
One special feature of the resort is the swimming pool, which extends from the hillside to afford panorama views. The pool has a floating tented sala, or pavilion, and guests can enjoy sundowners there or in the Chuan Spa, located directly below the swimming pool. The spa offers traditional Chinese medicine as part of its signature range of spa treatments. Chuan, Chinese for “flowing water”, represents re-birth and re-balancing as a source of life. The resort will also provide all-day beach-club and restaurant facilities. The restaurant and bar, Jessop says, will offer superb menus offering fresh fresh organic food. The menus will change with the seasons, as will decorations and in-house DJ.
The legend of Langham dates back to 1865, when the London Langham originally opened as Europe’s first “grand hotel”. For over 140 years, that Langham has been famous for its luxury and gracious hospitality. Today, Langham hotels worldwide have inherited the same unique hotel experience. Currently, Langham is extending two varieties of hotel and resort: The Langham, and Langham Place.
The Langham brand presents a luxurious combination of innovation and tradition in six hotels on four continents, in Auckland, Boston, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Pasadena.
“Normally,” says Jessop, “the guests who come to stay at Langham are those who love adventure more than traditional leisure.” At Langham Place Miora Resort and Spa Kalim Bay, for example, they aim to target adults seeking a fun, social holiday in Phuket. On the other hand, the 185-room Koh Lanta property targets families, and offers a range of suitable facilities from restaurant and bar to swimming pool and the only theatre on Koh Lanta.
In any case, Langham has decided that Phuket is the right place to start their Thailand expansion, going on from there to establish five hotels in five years, with other properties planned for Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Samui.
